Anthony's Victor camera is a traditional front focusing field view made of polished mahogany with either lacquered brass or nickel hardware. Victor cameras were only sold in outfits that included a canvas bag, plateholder and tripod.

During the 1890s, 4-1/4 x 6-1/2 inch versions of the Victor camera were offered as premiums by the Youth's Companion magazine for new subscriptions -- a surprisingly nice give-away item.

This particular camera is a 5 x 8 inch version with an Anthony No.2 single achromatic lens ("cone" form). The mahogany lens collar is original to the camera and was probably needed for the longer focal length lens.

This 5 x 8 inch version was listed for $20 in 1891 (equivalent to $379 year 2000 currency). Its relatively low price and basic features were ideal for the amateur market.
